This week was full of Cotton Balls, Cats, Caterpillar, Colors, and Counting!

We read SO many cat books this week.  "Have You Seen My Cat?" is one of my favs.  After reading that story, we made a cat from this link here (click which template you want to use on the right)

Painting with a Cotton Ball- This was such a fun activity.  Take 2 colors watered down and paint onto a coffee filter with a cotton ball. (I recommend watercolors if you have them, we used watered down finger paint and it didn't work that well)

Counting Coins 

These next few activities are what I call workboxes... aka independent work stations.  I usually set up a couple on the kitchen table if my 1 year old is awake or on the floor if she is confined somewhere and won't charge through her brother's stuff.   Here is what we did the week of C.... 

Colored playdough, Counting coins, and Coloring 

For those of you with boys, or other kiddos that don't enjoy coloring, a helpful trick that I use is I lay out only a few colors for him that are appropriate for the page.  I then "coach" him on what color he wants to use on the wheels, what color on the headlights, ect... This usually gets him sitting for more than a milisecond and usually prevents him from crazy random scribble all over the page and table then I am done mom!

Other Week 1 activities

So week 1 we cover the Letter A and these are the additional activities that we added in during the week...

Prewriting Practice - My son is still at the VERY early stages of writing. (He did the 3rd row.)  So instead of practicing writing the Letter A on paper... which would have been way stressful for him... we practiced lines going from left to right.  If your preschooler is ready for Letters, try this printable.

We found this little puzzle in the $1 section of Target (although it was $2.50).  It is a great easy activity to get preschoolers thinking about the order of things and even how their body is lined up!

We also painted.  Just for fun...

I got this activity from a friend of a friends blog (thanks Rachel!).  

The xylophone was also a Target $1 spot find. He enjoyed matching the colors but wasn't a fan of the coloring part.  

We worked on an opposites puzzle (not sure where I got this one). Although, with his short attention span, I had to divide this activity up and only take out about 7 matches.
